but I ain't

I've always known the end was coming

I've known it since the day I was born

death is all around us 

death's been caressing me all these years 

once upon a time we looked deep into each other's eyes 

I can still see that burning glance whenever I want 

but there was no heat at all 

just cold 

you ask me what shall we do now 

while we wait for these last few hours to dance by us 

you say "baby, what will we do? what will we do?" 

you're scared and you're trembling 

but I'm as at ease as I've always been 

we'll do what we've always done 

we'll pretend we're living  

when we're actually just waiting 

so lay on my chest for the last time
